Why do you need an e-commerce website?

The dream of being an entrepreneur was always far-fetched until the discovery of the world-wide-web popularly known as the internet. It was never projected that physical stores would start to disappear, and instead, online stores will mushroom. Currently, building an e-commerce website to list and sell products and/or services is within every entrepreneur’s realms having the time and, most importantly, patience!

Brainstorming, making, and growing the business is a time-consuming affair. This includes procuring, sourcing, or maybe create from scratch. It is the early and particularly important step one needs to conquer. However, an e-commerce website can be made in almost 48 hours to 72 hours. Wow, how fantastic is that?

Indeed, by the end of this blog, you will get an idea of finding a suitable product and niche for your e-commerce business, building your own e-commerce site, and generating sales.

Why sell products online on an e-commerce website?

I am a strong advocate of knowing the brand before buying their product. And I am sure most of the crowd wants to discover the brand and the products they sell. The brands that sell only through physical stores significantly limit the potential of learning your brand and very few people come to your store to make a purchase.

This was already the case before the Coronavirus pandemic even started, but is much more the case considering the multiple versions of lockdowns people had to face and shop only online. If you don’t open your eyes and ears to online shopping now, you may be left behind and miss out on a ginormous market.

1. People want to spend money on online shopping.

People in the USA spent a whopping $602 billion in 2019. The word coronavirus may not have even existed in our brains then. In the first month after the gruesome pandemic struck, e-commerce grew by almost 49%. I am sure that any business that does not participate in the online space will miss a crucial share of those profits.

I think countless people prefer to walk to the store. And they shall definitely go once there is a stop on any new versions of lockdowns. However, the growing trend is to shop online. Suppose your competitors have listed their business online, and you have been reluctant. In that case, you are missing out on a significant share of the business.

2. Having an e-commerce website is way cheaper than a physical store.

A physical store requires paying for

  1. Rent for the retail space
  2. Paying for staff
  3. Licencing and Permits
  4. Utility Bills
  5. Shop fittings, decoration, and furniture
  6. Maintenance
  7. Point-of-sale licensing

Add everything up, and you are looking at minimum thousands of dollars each month – and yes, they are ongoing. Selling products on the internet dramatically cuts down most of the cost. Paying for marketing, domain, hosting, and the internet will be an ongoing cost. And you may require a staff, depending on the scale of your business. But, the prices overall are affordable and can be planned efficiently.

3. Convenience is the biggest factor with an online store.

When you are not in the best of health and spirit or just being lazy – you may not have the time and energy to drive to the store, look at the different kinds of options, and then buy. No, you would rather lie down on the bed or couch and browse through an e-commerce site using your mobile device. Browsing an e-commerce website is extremely easy and time-efficient. People would most like to spend their money online when their mood is just to be at home. Nothing is easy, and so e-commerce is not entirely effortless. However, when you have an online store, you remove many roadblocks with a physical store.

4. Online presence increases the chances of getting your product in search.

Almost everyone uses Google to search for products and shop around. Your products will not even show up in searches without an online presence when people look for them online. But, when you list your product on your e-commerce website’s web page, Google will index them. There is a trick involved in listing your products on the first page of Google. That trick is called Search-Engine-Optimisation or widely known as SEO. After all, there are hardly people who even go to the second page of a Google search. To list the products on the first page of Google, it involves spending money on SEO best practices. But hey, where would you implement those SEO best practices? You need an e-commerce website to list your products and implement SEO.

Having a personal e-commerce website is a significant piece of e-commerce strategy. It is a great way to grow your brand presence and awareness, acquire loyal customers, and save substantial costs. I am sure the above bit of information has started to make you ponder about e-commerce’s wonders.
